Supporting Org Spotlight

Strong Women, Strong GirlsStrong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) is an after school mentoring program that raises the aspirations and self-esteem of girls in grades 3-5.  The program pairs teams of college women, who volunteer as mentors, with small groups of girls one afternoon per week. Each week, the girls involved in the program learn about a contemporary or historic female role model, focus on one of the program’s “Countdown to Success” skills and participate in a variety of leadership and self-esteem development activities. The girls take enriching field trips to the college campus and design and implement a service project to benefit their school or community. The program also focuses on developing the skills of the college women, by providing them with extensive training and leadership opportunities, as well as the opportunity to develop their professional skills through Mentor2Mentor, a one-on-one mentoring program matching college women with professional women in the community. In 2009-2010, SWSG served over 1,000 girls and 300 college mentors in Boston, Miami, and Pittsburgh. In Pittsburgh, 300 girls and 100 college mentors participated at 19 sites throughout Allegheny County. Learn more about SWSG

However, there are many savings myths still floating around out there.
